Easy Winter Skincare Tips for Black Skin

by Andrea Polk |

Beat seasonal dryness with a solid daily routine

Winter wreaks havoc on your skin.  Cold days suck the moisture out, thanks to dry air with very little humidity.  You might feel that your skin is drier and tighter than usual, and it most likely is.

When the weather turns cold, your skin has to work harder to maintain its natural moisture.  Additionally, the skin barrier becomes disrupted, leading to inflammation and even cracks in the skin.  This dryness is exacerbated by taking more frequent hot showers and staying indoors with central heating (and more dry air) more often.

But fear not – there are a few easy tips that can help you get through winter without any major skin problems.

  1. Cut back on your shower time – Be economical with your morning rinse.  The more time you spend getting pelted by hot water, the drier your skin will be.
  2. Exfoliate less – Don’t cut exfoliation from your routine completely but limit it to one session per week.  Too much exfoliation can cause inflammation and leave your skin uneven with spots of hyperpigmentation.  When you do exfoliate, use an all-natural solution like our Refined™ Buff + Cleanse All-Natural Facial Scrub.
  3. Moisturize twice daily, every day – Moisturizing should be a part of your skin routine regardless of the season, but it’s especially crucial during winter.  Be sure to rub in our Smooth™ All-Natural Face + Beard Moisturizer in the morning and evening to give your skin a hydration boost.
  4. Use sunblock – Winter sun is still detrimental to your skin and you need protection.

With a little extra care on a consistent basis, you can keep your skin looking clear and smooth all season long.
